What are the loan periods and fines for items?
Can I check out items from the Carnegie History Center?
No. The Carnegie collection is available for in-house research only.
What if the library system does not own a particular item I want?
Many books not available in the Bryan+College Station Library System may be obtained through Interlibrary Loan (ILL). If a book just came out in the last few months, we will not be able to obtain it through ILL, and we cannot borrow non-book items (movies and audiobooks). Contact the Reference Desk or Youth Services to suggest an item that the library might consider purchasing. Suggestion forms are available at the reference desks.
Are there fees if I lose or damage library materials?
Yes. Charges for lost or irreparably damaged items include the replacement cost of the item plus a $5.00 non-refundable service charge.
Can I reserve an item if it is currently checked out?
Yes. You may place holds/reserves on library materials that are listed in our automated catalog. You may request items in person at the Reference Desk, by phone, or by accessing your account online or from the public access computers (card catalog computers) at the library.
Can I keep the items out longer than the listed check-out period?
Library materials may be renewed once, provided they are not on hold. Renewals may be made by phone, on the online catalog, or in person. To renew by phone, you may call either library’s main number or use the TeleCirc service. Interlibrary Loan (ILL) items generally cannot be renewed; renewing all your books does not renew your ILL items.
Why am I no longer receiving notices in the mail?
We are going green! Effective November 1, 2010, the library system will no longer mail any overdue notices and hold notices. We will continue to mail fine notices and billing notices. People who have a local phone number and/or a valid email will continue to receive overdue notices and hold notices. Patrons may also check their account online or with the automated circulation system (see TeleCirc below) by calling 979-209-5604
What is TeleCirc, and how do I use it?
TeleCirc is the library’s automated circulation service. Dial (979) 209-5604, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Enter your full barcode from your library card, and choose one of the following options:
- Press 1 to renew items.

- Press 3 to list or cancel holds.
- Press 4 to state current fines.
- Press 5 to list overdue items.
- Press 6 to record your name.

At any time, you can press the pound key (#) to repeat options. You may end the call by hanging up or pressing the star (*).
