Adult Crafting Club

Larry J. Ringer Library has started a crafting club for adults. Once a month, we will have a free craft program for adults. Crafts are from 6 to 8 p.m.

Afternoon Book Club

A new book club for adults has started at Larry J. Ringer Library. All adults are welcome! This club usually meets from 5:30 to 7:00 on the first Tuesday afternoon of the month. On April 1, 2014, the club will meet at the library at 6 p.m. and will then go to the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center for a Brazos Valley Reads author visit at 7 p.m.. Texas author Rachel Caine (author of the award-winning Morganville Vampire series) visited Ringer Library on February 11, 2014, to promote her new book The Prince of Shadows. Michael Shoup of the Antique Rose Emporium visited Mounce Library on February 16, 2014, to talk about his rose books.

Books and Beans

If your love of books is only enhanced by a good cup of joe, the "Books and Beans" book club is for you. All adult ages, genres, and open minds are welcome….even non-coffee drinkers are welcome. Expect good coffee and even better discussion. The Books and Beans Book Club meets in the first floor meeting room at Clara B. Mounce Public Library in downtown Bryan. The club usually meets from 4:00 to 5:15 p.m. on the second Sunday of the month. Books to Go

The Brazos Valley Area Agency on Aging's RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) and the Bryan College Station Public Library System provide a program to deliver books to homebound senior citizens. Contact the Clara B. Mounce Public Library at (979) 209-5600 (in Bryan) or contact Ed at Larry J. Ringer Library (in College Station) to ask for registration materials to be sent to you. Books will be delivered every three weeks, and you can call the library to renew books. If you are interested in helping with this program, contact RSVP at (979) 595-2800 or email rsvp@bvcog.org.

Computer Classes

Computer classes in Bryan are being held at the Clara B. Mounce Public Library on Thursdays from 10:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. For more information about Bryan classes, contact Clara B. Mounce Public Library's Reference Desk at (979) 209-5600. Spanish computer help is held from 3:00 to 5:00 on Wednesdays and from 12:30 to 2:30 on Saturday. Larry J. Ringer Library (College Station, TX) is offering one-on-one computer help from 7 to 8 p.m. on Mondays and free computer classes from 1:15 to 3:15 p.m. on Thursdays. For information about College Station classes, contact Ringer Library's Reference Desk at (979) 764-3416. Larry J. Ringer Library computer classes are held on laptops in the front meeting room. The library has some, but you are also welcome to bring your own laptop and/or mouse. Reservations are not required, but class size is limited. The one-on-one computer help sessions will be held at a table in the library; for these sessions, please sign in at the Reference Desk.

FREE MOVIES

Larry J. Ringer Library will be showing a family movie one Saturday afternoon a month at 2:00 and a foreign film or a musical one Wednesday evening a month at 6:00. To find out movie titles, you can call the library at (979) 764-3416. Free movies will be shown in the library's front meeting room. Refreshments are allowed.

Sat., April 5, 2014 - Created Equal: America's Civil Rights Struggle, The Abolitionists (LJRL)

This is the third of four programs supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities and presented by the Carnegie History Center. Two of the four programs were held at Clara B. Mounce Public Library in downtown Bryan, and two will be held at Larry J. Ringer Library in College Station. Please join us for a film screening, discussion panel, and public forum. Library Reading Group

The Library Reading Group usually meets on the third Wednesday of the month from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Larry J. Ringer Library in College Station. This book club is for adults and is led by Peggy. National Novel Writing Month

November is National Novel Writing Month. Ever wanted to try writing a book? Take the challenge to write one during the month of November. Ringer Library typically hosts several writing sessions during the month of November. Check back next October or visit the BCS Wrimos regional forum or Facebook page to find out more.

Photography Contest

The 2013 photography contest for adults had three categories: children, pets, and scenery/landscape. Our landscape winner was Frank Corley with a picture of a rocking chair and an American flag. Our landscape runner-up was Vithal Shet Tilvi with a water scene. Our kids winner was Bethany Wright with a photo of a girl and a dog. Our kids runner-up was Kathy Green with a picture of a girl reading a book. Our pets winner was Roger Peart with a photo of a lizard. Our pets runner-up was Frank Corley with a picture of a horse. Social Media

Keep up with the library system through social media. Each of the local libraries has a Facebook page, there is a Pinterest page for the library system, and we have electronic mailing lists. You can subscribe to a mailing list to receive notifications about upcoming events. Ringer Library now has a Twitter page at twitter.com/RingerLibrary.

Our 2013 theme was Groundbreaking Reads. The 2014 theme is Literary Elements. Please check back in May for information about our 2014 summer programs. Adults who would like to volunteer at any of the libraries may contact a library manager or the library system director. Adults interested in volunteering may also visit the City of Bryan's Volunteer Program website to see what opportunities are currently listed and to get an application. If you are interested in helping with one of the Friends of the Library's book sales, please contact the Friends.
