NaNoWriMo kick-off party (CS IHOP) Event Details

Close

8:00 pm – 10:30 pm

This is the kick-off party for NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month). Writing sessions will take place throughout the month of November at Larry J. Ringer Library (College Station's public library) and at Evans Library (on the TAMU campus).

By popular forum votes, this year's Kick Off will be held October 31st at IHOP! This year, we will be at the College Station one, which is right across from campus at University and College Avenue. They have a meeting room that we will have reserved and there should be outlets, though no wifi. The room is free, but they do ask that most of our group order at least a little something, even if it is just a soda or coffee. Their food prices are also pretty reasonable, ranging from $3 for appetizers or salads to $7-10 for bigger plates.

Although the party officially ends at 10:30 p.m., people are welcome to stay after to get in their first words at midnight.

RSVPs are now closed, but people can still attend whether they RSVP'ed or not. If you RSVP'ed, you will have a goodie bag waiting for you.

6:00 pm – 9:00 pm

People who are participating in NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) will meet to work on their novels. November 1st is the first official write-in (writing session). Most write-ins will be on Wednesdays and Sundays, and there are also some on the A&M campus on Tuesdays. Free wi-fi is available at the library. Bring your laptop or bring pen and paper. More information about write-ins can be found at the Bryan+College Station NaNoWriMo regional forum. The page linked below is the library system's NaNoWriMo page with a list of events and links to related pages. If you still have questions or need directions to the library, you can call (979) 764-3416. Writing sessions will be in the front meeting room; if you arrive after the library closes (7 p.m. on Thursdays), go to the door at the end of the building (front left corner if you are facing the building) to be let in.

All ages are welcome to participate in NaNoWriMo. (See the NaNoWriMo Young Writer's Program if you are under 13 or if you are 13 to 17 and would prefer to set your own writing goal).

The regular write-ins are welcome to all participants, ages 13 and up. At least one of the two ML's (municipal liaisons) will be on hand for all events. Most of the regulars are adults (largely college-aged) and a few teens, and the group is good about policing themselves when younger people are around. If you have concerns, talk with Summer or Ted (the ML's) at the beginning of a write-in, or contact them at the NaNoWriMo regional forum or on the BCS WriMos Facebook page.

NaNoWriMo write-in (LJRL) Event Details

Close

1:30 pm – 7:30 pm

People who are participating in NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) will meet to work on their novels. Writing sessions will be in the front meeting room; if you arrive after the library closes (5:30 p.m. on Sundays), go to the door at the end of the building (front left corner if you are facing the building) to be let in.
