The Bryan+College Station Public Library System and the Friends of the Library use grants to help with some of our funding. Here is a listing of some of our recent grants.

2012 Grants

Barbara Bush Literacy Corps:

Mounce Library received $2,810.62 to begin an Adult Literacy Program. The money will go to purchase tutor and student books for Adult Basic Literacy from New Reader’s Press, a division of the nonprofit organization ProLiteracy Worldwide. Sessions will be held monthly through September 2012.

Ringer Library received $3,000 to continue to build the hardback picture books with read-along CD’s and Big Books collections the previous year’s grant provided.

Dollar General Literacy Foundation:

Ringer Library received $1,200 to purchase books, bookmarks, and craft supplies for 8 summer book discussion groups for 80 kids in grades 1-4. Sign-up for the program began May 21.

Texas Reads Grant from IMLS, distributed by TSLAC:

The Clara B. Mounce Public Library ESL (English as a Second Language) Program is made possible through a Texas Reads Grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services distributed through the Texas State Library. The $2,690 of grant money provided books for both teachers and students from New Reader’s Press.

2011 Grants

ALA Great Stories CLUB:

Ringer Library received a grant to provide 11 copies of “Hate List” by Jennifer Brown, 11 copies of “Dope Sick” by Walter Dean Myers, and 11 copies of “The Brothers Torres” by Coert Voorhees for the teen book club. They also received a $200 grant to provide materials and supplies for the book club discussion. The Great Stories Club is organized by the ALA Public Programs Office, in cooperation with the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA). Major funding for the Great Stories CLUB has been provided by Oprah’s Angel Network.

Barbara Bush Literacy Corps:

Mounce Library received a grant to purchase board books to use as summer prizes.

Ringer Library received $3,000 to purchase 65 hardback picture books with read-along CD’s and 69 Big Books that teachers can check out.

Gilbert & Thyra Plass Charitable Trust:

Friends of the Library received $2,000 to support literacy programs and were used as needed in the Summer Reading Programs and the year-long reading programs for children, teens, and adults.

Texas Book Festival:

Ringer Library received $2,500 to expand our World Language Collection. We were able to order 101 books in Asian languages (Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese). Some of the books have been catalogued, and others will be added soon. Contact a librarian if you would like to put one on hold.
