The libraries have some computers specifically devoted to the library catalog. You do not need to log
into those computers. For help using the catalog, ask a reference librarian.
To use any of the other computers, you will need your library card unless you are a one-time
visitor. Adult patrons have internet privileges automatically. For children and teens to have
internet privileges, parental permission is required (guidelines for
under 18).
The Bryan Public Library has some computers downstairs near the reference
desk and some upstairs in the Gates computer lab. The Larry J. Ringer Public
Library has some computers near the reference desk and two computers in individual rooms. The
Carnegie’s computers are located upstairs and are primarily for
genealogy research.
At the Bryan Public Library and at Larry J. Ringer
Public Library, you can log into the computers yourself. The computer will ask for your library
card number (long number on the back, no spaces) and your PIN number (four-digit number). If you do
not know your PIN number, you may ask a member of the library staff. When you log on, you will see
the internet policy and will need to accept those terms in order to
use the computer. Your time on the computer is limited, and a timer will display on the screen. At
the Carnegie, the staff has to log you on and off all computers.
In addition to internet access, our computers also provide word processing, spreadsheet, database,
and presentation software. If you would like to save your files at Larry J.
Ringer Public Library, you need to bring a floppy disk or USB drive. At
Ringer Public Library, the computers have CD drives, but they do not
currently have CD burners. At the Bryan Public Library and the
Carnegie Center of Brazos Valley History, the computers do have CD
burners.
Wireless access is also available at all three locations.
