ESL Program

Many English as a Second Language (ESL) programs in our community have long waiting lists for students who want to learn to speak the English language. The Mounce Library is helping other community organizations meet this need in the Brazos Valley by offering an ESL program, modeled after other successful ESL programs offered by public libraries across the state of Texas.

ESL Students

ESL students are adults (18 and up) who need to learn English. Students are informally assessed and placed into a group with other students working on a similar level. After three absences, another student may be put in your place. So it is important to commit to attending the classes. You may use your own computer or use the library’s public access computers. There will be students on the waiting list.

ESL Volunteers

We always need ESL volunteer teachers. All you need to know is how to speak English. If you want to teach ESL, contact Bobbee at (979) 209-5600 or email

Because the library is part of the City of Bryan, you will need to fill out a volunteer application with the City of Bryan. Please go to the City of Bryan volunteer page to get the current application. Then you can either email or mail the completed application to Bobbee Pennington, and she will get it to the City. If you have any questions, just contact Bobbee Pennington at or call at (979) 209-5616.
