2009-2010 has been a time of transition for the Bryan + College Station Public Library System.
Clara Mounce, who retired December 31, 2009, as Community Librarian, has made a number of
innovations to benefit our community.
On December 4, 2009, the City of Bryan hosted a reception, honoring Clara and her 31 years of
service. Another honor for Clara occurred at the January 12, 2010, City Council meeting. At that
time the City Council renamed the Bryan Public Library to the Clara B. Mounce Public Library.
Now, Clara will write her memoirs of 31 years of service.

Native Texas, Larry D. Koeninger, officially assumed the position of Community Librarian on
January 1, 2010, after working with Mrs. Mounce since November 16, 2009.
Dr. Koeninger (rhymes with "vinegar"), grew up near Lubbock and attended the University of Texas
where he received a Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Library and Information Science.
He also received a doctorate degree in Educational Leadership at Texas Tech University. Larry and
his wife, Mary, live in College Station.
Dr. Koeninger is looking forward to the challenges ahead.

The Friends of the Library supports all three libraries. The Friends accept donated books for the annual book sales to
fund library services and programs. Your support through gifts and membership in 2009 helped the Friends donate these
items:
- $11,000 for the year long Reading Program,
- $1,100 for DVDs
- $1,300 for equipment and supplies
- $500 for books in memory of James Beard, long time Friend
- $12,000 for equipment and materials for the Carnegie Center
- $3,000 for audio books for library patrons
We would love to have your gently used books, DVDs and books on CDs. Your gifts help others.
A special thanks to Boy Scout Troop 976, which helped the Friends to set up and take down books and tables at the
Bryan Public Library during the Spring '09 Book Sale.

NEW: The B+CS Public Library System will subscribe to a collection of audio books that would be made available to
library patrons through the Internet. All titles will be available for Windows-based MP3 players, and many are available
for iPods. Titles are continuously available to all patrons, who can download up to 10 titles at a time. Titles are checked
out for a three-week period and are then automatically returned to the collection. This service is available to library
patrons in March. An unlimited number of patrons could be listening to that latest vest seller at the same time.
MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL TIME: Please join the Friends of the Library for 2010. Your tax-deductible donation will be used
to fund the extra programs and services that patrons of our libraries have come to expect.
Also consider making a donation to the Clara Mounce Young Readers Fund in honor of Clara's 31 years of service to our
community. Complete the yellow membership form and mail it and your check made out to the Friends of the Library in
the enclosed returned envelope.
If you would like to volunteer with us by sorting donated books or helping at a book sale, please put a note on the back of
the membership form or email us at jcfolse@aol.com.
Enjoy the enclosed bookmark as you read your next book.

To read a book for the first time is to make an acquaintance with a new friend;
to read it for a second time is to meet an old one.
