Early Arrivals for Annual Reunion
John H. Roberts of Acadia, president of Hood's Texas Brigade, arrived today and while here attending
the reunion is a guest in the home of Hon. And Mrs. W. S. Barron.

Captain J. E. Mathis of Reliance is among the early arrivals for the reunion of Hood's Texas Brigade
and Green's Brigade. Capt. Mathis served in the 10th Battalion of the Georgia Artillery. He is 89
years young. He came to Brazos county 49 years ago and bought the place he now loves on and has been
living on it continuously since that day. After 61 years of happy married life he lost his wife six
years ago. While here for the reunion with his son Jim Mathis.
Captain E. W. B. Leach of San Antonio arrived Saturday for the reunion. He is a guest in the home of
his friends Mr. and Mrs. Jno A. Boriskie and a roommate of his friend James Briggs of Fort Worth.
Capt. Leach stopped over in Austin enroute [sic] to bryan [sic] for a few days visit to the
Confederate Home. While there he witnessed the marriage of R. P. H. Calhoun age 92, and Mrs. Annie
Elizabeth Pollard age 81. Calhoun is from the Men's Confederate Home and Mrs. Pollard from the
Women's Confederate Home. "The couple left immediately on a honeymoon trip to San Antonio," Capt.
Leach said.
