In her first career, Gay Yellen was an actor in Los Angeles, where she was a top 10% earner in the Screen Actors Guild. Having enjoyed more than her share of ups and downs in Hollywood, she happily moved behind the camera as the Assistant to the Director of Production at The American Film Institute (AFI).
Her professional writing career began in journalism. She was managing editor of the national Tennis Illustrated and later, of D Magazine in Dallas. She served as contributing book editor for Five Minutes to Midnight (Delacorte 1980), an international thriller. The success of that book prompted her to write her first solo novel.
She had completed the first draft when her husband asked her to guide the client and media relations and advertising for his national financial services company. It was 15 years before she returned to her writing.
The Body Business was published in 2014 and was a finalist for national and regional awards. Its sequel, The Body Next Door, published in November 2016, won First Place in the Mystery & Mayhem category at the Chanticleer Book Awards in 2017.
A Texas native, Gay is working on her third novel in The Samantha Newman Series, and also on a children’s book series, while doing research for a historical fiction series in her spare time.
