See the sky go dark at one of our Solar Eclipse Watch Parties

A total eclipse of the sun.

In case you haven’t heard the news, a total eclipse of the sun is happening on April 8 and Brazos County is in a really good position to see it. So, why don’t you come out to Clara B. Mounce and Larry J. Ringer libraries and watch the sky go dark with us!

Eclipse timing in Bryan-College Station

  • Eclipse Begins: 12:20 p.m.
  • Eclipse Max: 1:39 p.m. (0.983 magnitude)
  • Eclipse Ends: 3 p.m.

We are having two Solar Eclipse Watch Parties at the libraries and we’ll be distributing solar-viewing glasses, while supplies last. You must be present at the event to receive the viewing glasses – one per person / two per family. These are come-and-go events and registration is not required.

Mounce Watch Party

  • When: April 8 from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Where: Clara B. Mounce Public Library in Historic Downtown Bryan

We’ll have solar-themed crafts and other activities for kids, and the whole front lawn will be available for watching the sky. Blankets and lawn chairs are welcome.

Ringer Watch Party

  • When: April 8 from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Where: Larry J. Ringer Library in College Station

We’ll have solar-themed crafts and other activities for kids, and there will be eclipse viewing stations set up to help you get the best view of the sun.

Special thanks to the Solar Eclipse Activities for Libraries (SEAL) program, and the Texas A&M Forest Service for providing us with the special eclipse-viewing glasses. Funding from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation and the Space Science Institute made this possible.
