BCS Library System Achievement of Excellence in Libraries Award 2025

The Bryan + College Station Public Library System has been named a recipient of the 2025 Achievement of Library Excellence Award by the Texas Municipal Library Directors Association (TMLDA), placing it among an elite group of public libraries across Texas recognized for outstanding service to their communities.

Since 1966, TMLDA has promoted excellence in the public library profession by encouraging high standards of service, innovation and professional ethics. An affiliate of the Texas Municipal League, TMLDA annually honors libraries that demonstrate exceptional impact through responsive programming, meaningful community collaboration and forward-thinking services.

The Achievement of Library Excellence Award is open to TMLDA member library directors and the libraries they represent. To earn this distinction, libraries must demonstrate excellence across multiple service areas, including outreach to underserved populations, innovative marketing and communications, strong community partnerships, expanded and enhanced public services, literacy support for all ages, digital inclusion, workforce development, cultural and educational programming, and ongoing professional development for staff.

The Bryan + College Station Public Library System was recognized for its continued commitment to meeting the evolving needs of the Brazos Valley community through inclusive services, creative programming and impactful partnerships. Literacy initiatives include year-round programming, the Summer Reading Program, the Brazos Valley Children’s Literary Festival, activities for children and teens, and the Friends of the Library’s 70th Anniversary celebration of the Author Series, which has evolved into a signature, ongoing program serving the entire community, along with additional programs and services.

The library system has also expanded digital access by increasing online electronic services to create a true 24/7 Library, along with offering digitization services that help community members preserve memories by converting older media into digital formats. Workforce development efforts include partnerships with local organizations and access to online tools such as Tutor.com, providing academic and career assistance for learners of all ages. These services, combined with robust programming for families and adults, reinforce the library’s role as a vital community hub.

TMLDA recognizes that one of the defining strengths of Texas libraries is their individuality and their ability to respond to the unique needs of the communities they serve. While no two libraries are alike, each award recipient shares a commitment to excellence and public service.

According to the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, Texas is home to 545 public libraries. In 2025, only 101 libraries statewide received the Achievement of Library Excellence Award. According to Library Director Bea Saba, “This recognition is a significant honor for the Bryan + College Station Public Library System and a testament to the dedication of its staff and the strong support of the community we serve.”
