Celebrate our Local Hometown Heroes and the Big Rigs they operate at the annual Hometown Heroes Day at the Clara B. Mounce Public Library. Come meet and greet with City of Bryan first responders, firefighters and police officers, and get a close look with the big rigs they drive! Bring the whole family and join us for a morning of community celebration, big vehicles, free books and exciting early literacy opportunities!

Come outside and explore a variety of City of Bryan Big Rigs, including:
- Fire trucks
- Police vehicles
- The HealthPoint mobile vehicle
- Garbage trucks
- Water trucks
The fun continues with a book giveaway from United Way of the Brazos Valley, where families can take home books and discover new stories to enjoy together.
At 10 a.m., families are invited inside the library’s 2nd floor meeting room for a special unveiling celebrating the library’s 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program at Mounce, in partnership with our Friends of the Library.
1000 Books Before Kindergarten is a free early literacy challenge that encourages parents and caregivers to read 1,000 books with their children before they start kindergarten. Reading together from an early age helps children build important language and literacy skills while creating meaningful family moments around books.
Following the 10 a.m. unveiling ceremony, the backpacks will be available for checkout.
Parking: Some areas around the library will be blocked off to accommodate the Big Rigs. Parking is available in the nearby Roy Kelly Parking Garage for $1 per hour, with the first 60 minutes free. Additional parking is also available along Carnegie Alley.
